Since the English translation of Roberto Assagioli’s Psychosynthesis
Typology in 19831 , there have been only two significant publications
from within the psychosynthesis community that have dealt seriously
with the theory of the Seven Types.

The Seven Types – Chapter 1
A world of energy– The five psychological levels In this chapter we will explore how the seven types are connected with seven universal energies, on five psychological levels. In the Introduction, we saw how Assagioli suggested that each of the seven types has an underlying psychological function, which connects us to our “essential qualities”. The […]
The Seven Types – Chapter 2
In the last chapter we looked at how the whole of the cosmos is a system of energy: everything is comprised of energy and energy creates everything that exists. Our own selves are comprised of energy: our bodies, thoughts, feelings and drives can all be understood as forms of energy. We can also observe that there are different types of energy, and our everyday experiences confirm this whenever we observe that we feel tired or healthy, weak or strong.
The Seven Types – Chapter 3
In this chapter I will describe how the seven psychological functions relate to each other and to the seven energies and types. It is perhaps the most important chapter from a philosophical point of view because it explains how the “underlying functions”, according to Assagioli, create the seven types.
The Seven Types – Chapter 4
Realise your ambition – The seven personality types We have seen how the seven types manifest at five psychological levels. In this chapter, we will explore how the seven types and energies are expressed at the psychological level of the personality. In doing so, we can discover our own personality type. Figure 16 shows the […]
The Seven Types – Chapter 5
The “Seven Ways of Self-realisation” is a familiar concept within psychosynthesis and is taught in many centres around the world. One of the prominent books on this topic is Piero Ferrucci’s monumental work Inevitable Grace (2009), which discusses spiritual breakthroughs in the lives of great men and women. Ferrucci’s extensive research offers validity for these seven ways of spiritual psychosynthesis.
The Seven Types – Chapter 6
We will now look at how a few notable people each embody a different soul type. As stated in the Introduction, this chapter is written by Søren Hauge. My intention is to offer examples of men and women, past and present, who exemplify a particular soul type, or a typical combination of types, and I hope this will help us to recognise the essential qualities of the various types.
The Seven Types – Chapter 7
Another key concept of the Seven Types model is that the human psyche is comprised of five psychological levels – body, feeling, thought, personality and soul – with a different type of energy being dominant at each of the levels. This chapter looks at some of the difficulties involved in identifying these dominant types – and I will explain how an understanding of our underlying motivations and values can help.
The Seven Types – Chapter 8
In this chapter, we will look at the important psychosynthetic task of
integrating the soul and personality.
The Seven Types – Chapter 9
We know that people are different,
with distinctive appearances,
postures, movements, temperaments
and attitudes. This chapter, and the
two that follow, will look at these
differences from the perspective
of the Seven Types.
