Many of them have some\u00a0quality in common and they often overlap each other or\u00a0arise from the same fundamental characteristics. It could be\u00a0said that certain psychological types are prone to particular\u00a0kinds of glamour. Broadly speaking there are seven such\u00a0types as is illustrated in the following categories.<\/p>\n<p>I. Firstly, there is a group which comprises <em>the glamours of Superiority and Assertion.<\/em> These include the\u00a0glamours of:<br \/>\nPower<br \/>\nImposition of authority<br \/>\nAmbition<br \/>\nPride and conceit<br \/>\nPhysical Strength<br \/>\nSelf-cent redness<br \/>\nSurety of being right<br \/>\nImpatience and irritation<br \/>\nSeparativeness, isolation and aloofness<br \/>\nIndependence<br \/>\nFreedom.<\/p>\n<p>II. <em>Negative glamours are of an opposite type, such as:<\/em><br \/>\nFear<br \/>\nLoneliness<br \/>\nInferiority Complex<br \/>\nSense of futility<br \/>\nFrustration<br \/>\nDepression<br \/>\nSelf-pity<br \/>\nAnxiety<br \/>\nInertia<br \/>\nSelf-effacement<br \/>\nSelf-sacrifice.<\/p>\n<p>III. <em>Glamours connected with Activity form a third group.<\/em><br \/>\nAmong these are :<br \/>\nThe glamour of &#8221; being busy &#8221;<br \/>\nConstant planning<br \/>\nScheming to bring about desired ends<br \/>\nDeviousness and manipulation<br \/>\nSelf interest<br \/>\nPreoccupation with practical matters at the<br \/>\nexpense of spiritual<br \/>\nThe glamour of efficiency.<\/p>\n<p>IV. <em>Glamours relating to artistic creativity form a group\u00a0<\/em>which is in a way opposite to the last. These are\u00a0glamours which arise chiefly through sensitive\u00a0awareness of beauty and the more abstract realities\u00a0and the desire to bring them into expression and\u00a0create harmony out of conflict. They include:<br \/>\nThe glamour of vague artistic perception<br \/>\nThe glamour of beauty<br \/>\nTendency to diffusion<br \/>\nImpracticality<br \/>\nLack of objectivity<br \/>\nDissatisfaction with existing conditions because\u00a0of a sense of that which is higher or greater<br \/>\nInner and outer conflict.<\/p>\n<p>V. <em>Glamours arising from mental polarisation<\/em>. This is a more or less subtle obfuscation, but one that can have very ugly consequences. It is the illusion that the higher level, the ideal, must be pursued at all costs; that is, narrowly, fanatically or prematurely. Instead of this, there needs to be a wise gradualness in the appreciation and progressive materialization of ideals. And also an awareness that it is not possible to pursue all ideals at once.<\/p>\n<p>If we have an ideal model of ourselves that is too high and unrealistic, it is only natural that we fail to achieve it; and this leads to a reaction of depression, or self-accusation and guilt. We must always remember that we are in an imperfect universe, that perfection is achieved only very, very gradually, and that the ideal must be seen as a point of arrival, and cannot be realized on the spur of the moment.<\/p>\n<p>In a certain sense we should have a dual perspective, both long-term and immediate, as well as intermediate.
