Psychosynthesis and Parapsychology
Roberto Assagioli, the founder of Psychosynthesis, asserted that parapsychological research is a valuable form of scientific inquiry and maintained that it is an integral part of Psychosynthesis because of the simple fact that paranormal phenomena are a psychological fact. In this collection of articles, Assagioli discusses some of the parapsychological functions, from clairvoyance to telepathy, and sees these functions as natural extensions of all our regular psychological functions.
He also offers a word of caution for most people to avoid becoming lost in these paranormal faculties because they open up to unseen inner worlds, which can disturb the psychological balance and cause serious mental or emotional trouble if the psychic explorer is not prepared and well-grounded. However, it becomes clear when reading Francesco Baroni’s well-research paper Roberto Assagioli and Parapsychology (included in this book) that Assagioli had a lifelong active interest in these matters. Piero Ferrucci, a colleague and student of Assagioli, also offers his recollections of how Assagioli approached these matters.
