The article describes in particular the transpersonal or spiritual aspects of energy psychology and especially how we integrate the personality type and the essence type.
By Søren Hauge and Kenneth Sørensen
When you have read the introductory article The energy types – your seven trading pages , you have gained an experience of the spectrum of energy types, described in general terms and without going into too much detail. Such a description is of course of great value. But what really gives a deeper perspective on the energy types is not just that we contain them in general or with different degrees of dominance. The important perspective is that not only a horizontal view of the energy types is taken, but also a vertical angle.

The five psychological levels
The vertical perspective can be viewed, for example, through Maslow’s pyramid of needs and the psychological levels of energy psychology, which very simply distinguish between the body, emotions, thoughts, integrated personality, soul and spirit. It is a hierarchical stage model, where we gradually develop from the bottom up towards greater and greater consciousness. In the diagram above there is an example of this understanding, although without the level of the spirit, since we do not use this level in practice, which is extremely advanced.
We thus distinguish between different levels in our human constitution. These levels are also expressed in the way we view the energy types. Overall, we can see it as follows:

The domain of spirit involves an identification with the deepest spiritual reality and is so far removed from common human experience that this area is extremely difficult to explore. The energy types have their transcendent reality at these levels, expressed as the seven rays, but cannot be described in everyday terms that most people know or can make sense of. It concerns the deepest and most spiritual experiences that are within anyone’s reach, and it requires a very mature spirituality to include it in the context of the energy types. According to experiences made by advanced people, it is the will aspect that characterizes these levels as the animating force, purpose, and driving energy.
“ We fear the unpleasant and distasteful aspects of ourselves, but we fear even more the godlike aspects of ourselves.” ~ Abraham Maslow
Therefore, it is mostly in the area of the soul and personality that it is possible to work practically with the energy types. The difference between the level of the soul and the personality is primarily about the breadth of consciousness, where the soul expresses the altruistic, embracing element, while the personality is more egocentrically oriented or self-conscious, until the influence of the soul becomes more and more pronounced and uses the personality as its expression in the world. The consciousness of the soul is selfless and more far-reaching than that of the personality. Therefore, it both transcends and includes the needs of the personality. The soul is the source of the personality, and therefore the personality is the mask or tool of the soul in the world. Through the mental, emotional and body, the soul shows itself as the underlying meaning and the purpose of life. However, it is only when we awaken to the more selfless and altruistic consciousness of the soul that the personality becomes a true expression of the soul.
Now that we are integrating all the energy types, we can naturally ask ourselves the question, what makes us unique? There are three things in particular that make us very special: A. The combination of the energy types at the level of the spirit, soul, and personality. B. A person’s life purpose , which leads them in a certain direction, with special experiences as a result. C. The evolutionary development of each energy type in the soul, that is, its ability to express the energy type in its immature, mature, and transformed version.
Primary and secondary dominances
We each contain the full spectrum of all energy types, simply because we are all capable of displaying will, emotion, thought, imagination, logic, passion and action. We are therefore the whole register at all times. But we are never anonymous, we never contain a completely equal distribution of all seven – or fourteen – possible forms of expression. Experience shows that we have dominances.
There will always be, at the soul level, and correspondingly at the personality level, a primary energy type that is at the center, and around which the other energy types form a circle and are subordinate. It can be any one of the seven energy types that dominates. So we each have a deep background tone that forms the dominant influence of the soul. In the foreground of this fundamental tone vibrates another tone that is maintained and characterized by the soul’s fundamental tone, but which has its own distinctive character. This is the dominance of the personality.
Together, these two constitute the primary dominances. We can distinguish between them by speaking of the inner fundamental tone of the soul and the outer fundamental tone of the personality. The fundamental tones are the most strongly vibrating types of energy inwardly and outwardly. In almost all cases, the dominances are different and form the field of tension in which we develop.
It is important to add, however, that the energy types of the soul and personality only begin to emerge as a significant influence when the personality is integrated and the individual has awakened to the higher, more selfless values of the soul. Until that level of development is reached, the energy types of the mental, emotional, and physical levels will dominate, and the personality and soul will be more anonymous background tones. This is discussed further below.
The two primary dominances
The illustrations here show an example of the dominant energy type of the soul (left) and personality (right), which is like a background imprint. Blue is the sensitive essence type, red the dynamic, so the soul is 2 and the personality is 1.
The secondary dominances
Our personality is the sum of our mental, emotional and physical resources expressed in action. Although the personality in the course of development becomes integrated and comes to appear as a functioning whole, the mental (mental), the emotional (emotional) and the physical (bodily) part each have their own respective keynote. Therefore, in each of the three aspects of the personality there will be dominances. We can call these secondary dominances .
The picture in its entirety will therefore look like this for the developed human being:
- The soul (generally characterized by love-wisdom) One type of energy dominates (primary)
- Personality (integrated character) One energy type dominates (primary)
- Mental (mind) One type of energy dominates (secondary)
- Emotional (the nature of feelings) One type of energy dominates (secondary)
- Physical (the body & vitality) One energy type dominates (secondary)
We thus have five vertical levels of energy type dominance, all of which must be taken into account when the most complete picture is to be considered. The dominant energy type of the soul is the deepest force, the inner magnet or fundamental tone, which can be reflected in all that is external, in the personality and its threefold expression. It is the meaning and essence behind all that is external, first as an unconscious, subtle influence, to which one awakens consciously later in one’s journey of development.
The personality’s own fundamental tone, which is subject to the soul’s fundamental tone or energy type, has its own dominant energy type, which emerges when a person integrates thought, feeling and body into a coordinated whole. This is what Maslow calls self-actualization, and is a result of the person discovering the will and becoming a self-aware, purposeful person within their field.
The gathering of the personality brings the energy type into activity, since it is this quality which is the primary integrating quality which the will uses. The mental, emotional and physical fundamentals are then subordinated to the personality. If a person has not yet matured to establish himself as a personality, the three secondary fundamentals can easily overshadow both the soul and the personality. They then become primary fundamentals.
“Whatever you are, be good at it.” ~ Abraham Lincoln
If we add to these dominances that the energy types all have an introverted (feminine) side and an extroverted (masculine) side, then a pattern of five vertical levels emerges, especially characterized by certain of the energy types with fourteen variants. The table below shows some of the most important connections between the energy types and their expressions as essence types, personality types and what motivates them to action.

Energy types and motivation
All five dominances play a role when the overall picture is called up, and it is the clarification of these dominances that constitutes the important work when the understanding of the energy types is to be integrated and brought to life in our lives. The two most important will be the two primary dominances, that of the soul and that of the personality. If a person is a well-functioning personality who can assert himself, then the dominant energy type of the personality will be clearly experienced. If the deeper soul development has begun to assert itself, then the dominant fundamental tone of the soul will also become clear and distinct together with that of the personality.
It is not always easy to clarify energy type dominances, but it is always possible to track them down, and the clarification contains the very keys to a person’s inner motivation and life mission, just as it provides important keys to understanding our daily activities and tendencies when the personality and its inherent dominances are clarified. Therefore, the clarification work is of invaluable importance and the process is insightful in itself. The energy type work can include a number of different tools, including, for example, analysis work, teamwork, voice dialogue, meditation, conversation, role play and project work. At www.jivayou.com you can take a personality test, which can be the first step towards clarifying your dominances.
The personal energy types and their drives
The presentation of the energy types in the previous article on the seven energy types was based on the identification of very simple functions that we all know, of which will, feeling and thought were the focal points, and imagination, logic, desire and action were born from combinations of the first three. Based on the functions, we gave a description of the seven types in both their introverted (feminine) and extroverted (masculine) aspects, so that a palette of fourteen psychological profiles emerged.

Each of the seven energy types – with their two basic aspects – has a drive or motivating force for activity, which was also shown in the table above. The primary drive of the type is a key to its psychology and simply gives an insight into what is particularly meaningful to the type. In the case of the dynamic type, the primary drive is influence . It is important for the dynamic to be able to influence, either through an initiation or a sustained situation.
The very act of asserting oneself, of being the driving force or ensuring that an issue is heard or seen, is absolutely crucial for the dynamic energy type. Sometimes this of course degenerates into power-hungry and dominating behavior. But in its most important core aspect it is about burning through, influencing and changing, so that something new can see the light of day, or so that freedom of expression can be ensured.
For the sensitive, the underlying motivation is more to create and take part in cohesion . The sensitive is strongly concerned with coherence and wholeness and will naturally think in ways that promote the unifying, unifying aspect of a situation. Exclusion and isolation break the wholeness. Connection and common denominators confirm the larger context of which we are a part. Sometimes this drive degenerates into a fixation on security and a stagnant comfort mentality, or it creates sentimentality and fear of creating change. Other times it turns out to be a healing function that strengthens the unifying forces and creates kindness and human flourishing.
The mental is driven by its inquiring and broadly reflective mind and will naturally go in the direction of everything that promotes overview . The penetrating, investigative mentality will motivate the mental to get around a matter or a topic from every conceivable angle in a drive to understand it as thoroughly as possible. If things are understood by their source or cause, as principles, then an understanding of both causes and effects is created and this provides an overview. This can lead to one-sided intellectualism or impractical, academic theorizing, just as it can lead to an overly narrow preoccupation with tactical maneuvers and the urge to prove one’s genius. But at its core, the mental is driven by a deeply relevant longing to understand in depth, so that the broadest possible overview is established, and thus create the opportunity to develop and improve.
In the universe of the creative there will always be a natural joy in reaching beauty . Here we do not mean the pretty, but the beautiful, which possesses both depth and breadth, nuances and tones, simplicity and complexity. There is outer beauty, and then there is inner beauty, and of course they are not always opposites of each other. But what may seem beautiful on the surface may be flat and hollow, whereas the seemingly ugly in reality contains a great beauty, filled with qualities and depth. The creative can get lost and lose themselves in superficiality or chase the transient, just as a cult of the opposite of beauty can arise. But inside the creative has a special sense of the art of living and beauty and will always seek to create beauty in all its aspects.
The analyst will always be turned on when an opportunity arises to promote precision . The joy of precision, of working with detail and understanding precisely why and how something is created or originated, is a source of very special joy and persistence for the analyst. With logical sense and scientific consistency, the exact mechanisms are uncovered, and it is possible to use the acquired knowledge sensibly and purposefully. The analyst can of course get lost in unnecessary detail or become overly functional and fixated on utility at the expense of empathy and other equally relevant needs. But the joy of precise, factual knowledge is the meaningful drive that leads the analyst to his important achievements.
The dedicated person is driven towards his goals by a deep urge for idealization , a knowledge and belief that behind the moderate or mediocre always lie far greater possibilities and driving forces towards something better. This inherent buoyancy is a trust in something higher and better, an ideal instinct that creates the belief that life is worth living and that tomorrow brings light and high skies. The dedicated person simply loves that which promises improvement and which makes the mediocrity of life bearable. Idealization can degenerate into one-eyed loyalty, idyllicization and naive credulity, but at its core the urge for elevation towards the greater and better is an absolutely invaluable attitude, and it is an understanding that the dedicated person contains and treasures in a very special way.
In the world of the practitioner, it is about seeing results. It is such a fundamental and important thing for the capable practitioner that it simply constitutes a parameter for whether something is relevant or not. If things work and work, then they are useful. Talents and qualities must be used to put things into action and produce visible results. The practitioner understands this with his whole being, and it constitutes the primary motivation to be active. We are here to be useful, and all aspects of our being are possible tools in this process. The practitioner can be blinded by the glamour of efficiency and end up in a superficial assessment of what works and is useful, and a routine-fixed dependence on organizing anything can arise. But the practitioner knows that it is a sign of health when things in this life create results, and we can all benefit from them.

The seven essence types
The functions and drives of the transpersonal energy types
When we shift our focus from the personal dimension to the higher soul potentials, other octaves of functions and possibilities come into view. There is a big difference between the personal and the transpersonal or soul dimension. As long as we are in the personal field, the axis will naturally revolve around questions such as: What is good for me? What do I get out of it? How does it benefit me? The questions are relevant and important. The personality is naturally concerned with ensuring its existence and continued well-being. Everything is as it should be. If we now raise our focus into the soul dimension, the questions become something like: What serves the best interests of the whole? What benefits the most people? How can good relationships be created for everyone? The questions are just as relevant and important. The soul is naturally concerned with ensuring the well-being of the whole, because this part of us is in harmony with the whole. Everything is as it should be. If both levels in us do their respective best and communicate well together, a life filled with light, creativity and love will result. Especially if the personality’s need for comfort, security, and status is subordinated to the soul’s more far-reaching values.
The transpersonal or spiritual reality encompasses and includes the personal reality. One could say that the transpersonal lies in immediate extension of the personal. It transcends and includes at the same time. The personality is the expression or instrument of the soul – not the other way around. The soul is our core or cause – the personality is our exterior or effect. As we develop, we will gradually become more and more open to the higher or deeper potentials that can be integrated into our personal work. When we tune in, for example through meditation or reflection, to our more far-reaching potentials, we direct our focus towards the higher spiritual functions of the soul consciousness: Life, Intuition, Idea, etc., as seen in the diagram below. The psychological functions of the personality can therefore be called lower octaves of the transpersonal functions of the soul.
Let it be said right away that the descriptions below are hypothetical proposals, a proposal under development because by their very nature they can only be verified by the enlightened consciousness.

“The only rival is one’s own potential. The only mistake is not living up to one’s own possibilities. In that sense, every man can become a king and must therefore be treated as a king.” ~ Abraham Maslow
The dynamic energy type functions from the will as a driving force, and the personal drive is influence . On the transpersonal or soul level, the higher aspect of the will is contacted, which can be called the spiritual life , here understood as the life-giving force; that which animates and creates renewing freedom from within. The higher aspect of the energy type is not only dynamic, but comes into contact with the life force on a deeper level. Therefore, it can be called the life or power type in its higher aspect. Here it will be the archetypal Hero and Leader who comes into function, the leader who includes both the pioneer and the manager, and who in a soul sense is a true leader. A person who masters himself and makes it possible for others to achieve the same freedom is a hero. A hero is a person who puts his life or character at risk to make a difference for others . The drive of the power type is freedom , here understood as the liberation from limitations and the freedom to unconditionally develop the highest potentials. It also implies the courage for the necessary dismantling of the old, which stands in the way of the new. To rule in the most spiritual sense of the word means to be the ruler, mastering the forces in one’s realm with responsibility and loving intelligence. It is a completely unfettered ability to set new, life-giving forces in motion, so that true renewal can take place, and so that development can be secured for the whole.
The sensitive energy type functions from the feeling as primary function, and the personal drive is cohesion and empathy . At the soul level, the higher octave of feeling is brought into activity, and the word that most easily describes what the octave contains is probably intuition; here not just understood as having a feeling, but the deep, immediate knowledge of something, seen from the perspective of the whole. The sensitive type here becomes so deeply connected to the whole that it can rightly be called the unity type . The archetypal or transformed aspect becomes the Enlightener or Teacher , the one who through his own living example shows others the path to growth and enlightenment, and who contains both the guide and the helper in their best aspects. The drive of the unity type is love , the unconditional love from the soul that loves other people as the souls they are. This love is completely unsentimental and identifies so undividedly and completely with all living beings that it heals all wounds. Compassionate wisdom and loving, intuitive insight are qualities that the sensitive unit type brings to life, enabling an ability to see into the hearts of people. There they can see what people need, rather than what they sometimes ask for.
In the reality of the mental energy type, it is thought that is the main function, and the personal drive is overview . In the world of the soul, the function of thought is raised to the abstract, mental functions, and ideas become the basic function. Ideas connect to the reality of principles and symbols and provide access to the very archetypal area that is the cause of concrete understandings. Here, the mental type, due to its preoccupation with larger contexts, becomes the holistic type , which in its transformed form is the Genius , the sharp and deep thinker who also has pronounced strategic abilities and a sense of complexity. The holistic type has a drive that not only seeks overview in the general sense, but also wants to achieve clarity , the crystal-clear realization that arises in the higher consciousness. Clarity is connected to the luminous nature of consciousness itself and part of what has also been called spiritual intelligence. It is the genius who understands how to weave otherwise separate disciplines of knowledge together in an elegant synthesis, where all areas are given their rightful place in the greater whole.
The creative energy type has imagination as its primary focus, and the personal drive is beauty . As we elevate the function into the transpersonal realm, the focus becomes a natural extension of the imagination, namely in the form of vision , the ability to see the higher possibilities for spiritual development and fulfillment. The visionary ability is the inner view, the ability to accommodate perspectives that rise beyond time and space and see the sublime as reality in the making. The creative energy type becomes visionary and anchored in the higher harmonies of the soul, – hence the term harmony type , which brings to life the transformed archetype we can call the artist . It is the true artist of life, who not only makes his own life a work of art, but who contributes to expressing the higher harmony and inner beauty of the soul. The harmony type seeks precisely as its drive to express and participate in harmony , the deep consonance or ‘concordia’ that unites higher and lower, inner and outer, large and small.
The analytical energy type has logic as its basic function, and the strong, motivating drive is naturally precision . In the transpersonal sphere, the function logic is transformed into wisdom , the deep insight into the nature of reality, which matures through immersion and love for the underlying realities. Wisdom is the final maturation of logic, when the sharp clarity is combined with the warm depth. Wisdom is the intelligent understanding of reality, gained through experience and experiment, and motivated by love . The analytical energy type becomes insightful through its comprehensive and deep relationship not only to the parts, but also to the whole that each part expresses. Therefore, one can call it the insight type in its soul aspect, and the higher archetype is the Discoverer , who lifts the explorer and the specialist into their transformed aspect. The Discoverer sees the whole in the parts and reveals the mysteries of life. It is the insight that everything is energy, and that every living being is part of an unbreakable unity. The transpersonal drive is truth , the nature of reality, which is both behind the activities of external forms and in their very dynamics.
The dedicated energy type is driven by the intense drive of passion . Transpersonally, it is expressed as the soul’s longing for perfection. In the soul lives a deep longing to return to its spiritual origin, to become perfect, one with the highest spirit. It is this longing that has characterized the mystics of history, the upward drive of the heart towards emptiness, enlightenment, unity. The devoted energy type is here lifted into its higher aspect and can therefore be called the transcendent type , which seeks that which is beyond temporal limitations and the determinations of external forms. This is simply because this energy type embodies the Visionary , the one who sees and seeks the more perfect, which is the higher purpose behind all expression. The Visionary goes from one ideal to the next until everything is transcended into that which is the deepest determination of us all.
The practical energy type has action as its home field and central function. Transpersonally, it becomes more than just action, but rather the possibility of creating synthesis , of bringing something new into being, which contains more than what was previously possible. Synthesis is a coming into being, where many elements merge into a higher unity and produce something new at a higher level. The practitioner’s higher aspect is not only able to bring things together so that action can be taken. Here, practice becomes the magic of manifestation, which is the essence of the practitioner’s higher aspect, also called the synthesis type . The ability for the magic of manifestation means that the energy type becomes the Creator , who is both an order-maker and an organizer. The Creator is able to direct the diverse forces that lie behind a creative act and bring it into practice. By using the power of thought, the good purpose is connected with systematicity and organization, in order to thus bring an idea into practice. From the perspective of this type of energy, creation is our ultimate destiny and our deepest secret, what we all must do to perfect our nature and bring heaven down to earth.
“It takes courage to stand up and speak. It also takes courage to sit down and listen.” ~ Winston Churchill
Examples of combined personality and essence types
Let us return to the primary energy type dominances, that of the personality and that of the soul. As mentioned earlier, the two dominances will almost always be different, for in the difference lies the field of tension that contains the individual’s growth opportunities, challenges and dynamics. The dominant energy type of the soul tells us who we are, whereas the energy type of the personality provides the key to how we function. Furthermore, the main components of the personality, the mind (the mental realm), the feelings (the emotional realm) and the body itself (the physical realm), are each dominated by one of the seven energy types.
The key to the psychology of the individual is thus hidden in the dominant energy types and their composite whole in each of us. In the primary and secondary effects of the energy types in us, we find the key to our life path and the help to handle our conditions and daily challenges. The path we each find ourselves on is due to our energy type composition with its primary dominances on the soul plane and in the personality. In other words, we become better equipped to walk the path that is ours and live as we are when we truly gain direct insight into our dominant energy types. Let us begin with some examples that show different variants within a chosen area.

To illustrate how it might appear for an individual, we can begin by giving a fictional example that shows the dynamics and interaction between the dominant energy types.
The soul energy type is 2 (the sensitive essence type) and the personality energy type is 5 (the analyst). As already mentioned, these two are the main and most important to clarify when working with the understanding of the interaction. Subordinate to these two, in the personality itself, we have the mental energy type, which is 1 (dynamic), the emotional energy type, which is 6 (dedicated), and the physical energy type, which is 3 (mental).
If we assume that this is a person who is still strongly focused in his personality, and therefore not very open to soul influence, then there will be a very strong and intense, overall scientific attitude and a focus on factual knowledge, common sense and a logical mentality. The motto will be to strive for ‘common sense’ and with an interest in, for example, mathematical, technical or very specialized fields of study.
Due to the mental dominance (1), there will be a very targeted mentality, which likes to focus on one area of life that can increase understanding. However, the person will not think as analytically and specialized as a person would otherwise if the analytical energy type was on the mental. The dynamic mental energy type sees more of the big picture and always seeks to influence the area by determining the essence and the underlying principles.
Emotional dominance (6) reinforces the intense engagement so that it also engages the emotions, sometimes with vehemence and choleric outbursts when expertise is critically challenged or when the person encounters completely different points of view than their own.
The physical energy type (3) entails a great deal of mobility, and this can result in physical clutter in the surroundings, which, due to the technical involvement, does not receive much attention.
If we now assume that this person matures through crises and experiences to a greater susceptibility to the influence of the soul, then his drive and search for love and wisdom, rather than purely factual, detailed knowledge, will create a growing conflict between inner values and outer commitment. At some point, the soul energy type cannot be ignored, and this may manifest itself in an interest in subjects that traditional logic does not encompass and that language does not capture.
A growing interest in spirituality and mysticism may be emerging, perhaps especially through new research that shows that reality is greater than the materialistic and mechanistic paradigm allows for.
It is also possible that the soul energy type is expressed through a greater degree of human spaciousness, kindness and warmth, and that there is an interest in putting technical knowledge at the service of humanity, for example through economically saving use to eliminate poverty in developing countries. The heart is brought into the special knowledge the person has, and the desire to help begins to intervene. The soul influence also leads to a softening of the very intense emotions and the very targeted mindset.
The emotional life will find it easier to become peaceful, and the mind will open up to greater wholes, and will not be so preoccupied with dominating and asserting itself. And physically, there will be greater attention to taking better care of oneself and one’s health.
The example here is of course only illustrative, and there are many different possibilities for how this particular constellation of energy types can be expressed. The deeper perspective is always to open up the interaction between soul and personality and begin the integration work between the energy types, so that they become more rounded in their expression.
“In the practice of tolerance, one’s enemy is the best teacher.”
~ Dalai Lama
Discovering your dominance
The art of getting to know yourself and becoming aware of your dominances, not least through understanding the vertical levels and the difference between the soul or the transpersonal on the one hand, and the personality on the other, is of course a process that can involve many different tools or approaches. This is where practical work with energy types becomes relevant. But it is important to listen to your immediate reactions, and it often turns out that the first registrations and recognitions turn out to be more or less accurate in the long run. Therefore, it is recommended that you take stock of the situation at an early stage and give a suggestion about your own dominances. Here are some questions you can ask yourself. They are divided in relation to the soul and personality levels, but you should be aware that the influences can overlap:
Especially in relation to the soul energy type
What is my heart’s longing?
What is my greatest joy?
What matters most to me?
What are my core values?
What interests me deeply?
Especially in relation to personality energy type
What are my main occupations and general interests?
With what quality have I become a strong character?
How have I really stood out from the crowd?
How do I generally appear to others?
What main characteristics particularly characterize my nature?
What are my strengths and weaknesses?
General – primary areas of fear
The dynamic: The fear of losing influence
The sensitive: The fear of being excluded and rejected
The mental: The fear of confusion and ambiguity
The creative: The fear of not being able to express oneself
The analytical: The fear of superstition and lack of facts
The Dedicated: The Fear of Losing Faith and Direction
The practical: The fear of chaos and ineffectiveness
General – primary imbalances
The dynamic: Tendencies towards self-overestimation and dominance
The Sensitive: Tendencies towards Popularity and Vanity
The mental: Tendencies towards mental arrogance and cunning manipulation
The creative: Tendencies towards large emotional fluctuations and instability
The analytical: Tendencies towards mental blinders and superior knowledge
The Dedicated: Tendencies towards self-deprecation and blind faith in authority
The practical: Tendencies towards over-perfectionism and mechanical efficiency
There are some important things to remember. Sometimes you feel repulsed by things that you are basically interested in, but that you have a block towards because of past events you have been exposed to. Therefore, you have to be very realistic and brutally honest, and as you know, this is not always easy. Help from outside can be valuable, and this is where analysis work and group dynamics can be of help. But as a help, you can try to accommodate this area by asking:
Especially in relation to possible hidden resistance
Are there types of energy that I have great resistance to?
Why and how?
Is there a hidden attraction behind the antipathy?
Finally, there is the question of sub-personalities, which are roles or aspects of ourselves that are more or less unconscious and only come up in special situations. These sub-personalities or facets are most often due to experiences we have had at an earlier time, which have left a lasting mark on us as patterns of behavior that repeat themselves. Each sub-personality often expresses a very specific type of energy. They can be experienced positively or negatively, but they are voices within us that must be heard and understood if we are to discover what is happening within us and how we act in relation to the types of energy:
Especially in relation to sub-personalities
What different roles or sides sometimes emerge?
What is their nature like?
Do they show the unrecognized dominances I may harbor?
It is questions like these that can help us see the underlying forces in our outer and inner nature. In the next chapter we will follow that up by looking at how we can integrate the energy types.
Seven-step meditative exercise
The following meditative exercise shows simply and clearly how a natural process can involve the seven energy types in a meaningful way. The exercise takes 10-15 minutes. Step four can be adapted to the season or replaced with other images.
- Center yourself
Sit comfortably, close your eyes and relax your body. Feel how you sit upright and create a vertical column of power. You rest in inner peace. You have taken your throne and sit as the king/queen of your universe. You rest in unwavering calm in your center, with dignity and peace.
- Connect
Contact your heart and experience a sun that gently radiates from your center to all sides, through your body and out around you in all directions. Connect with the light and warmth that radiates in all directions. Feel your connection to the hearts of others.
- Observe
Now raise your attention to the head, to the area between the eyebrows. Draw your focus into the center of your head and feel your conscious alertness. Become the observer, experiencing your body, feelings, and thoughts. Be aware of the clarity and calm.
- Use your creative imagination
Now imagine that you are walking along the beach by the sea. You feel the wind and hear and see the rocking rhythm of the waves. The beach is filled with beautiful stones that glisten in the light from the sun. You enjoy the beauty and peace of the beautiful scenery as you walk along the beach.
- Focus
You now stop and choose a particularly beautiful stone. You pick it up in your hand, feel it and look at it. It expresses a characteristic or quality that you need right now. You become aware of what it is and express to yourself what characteristic or quality it is.
- Internalize
Feel the quality. Let it affect you. Take it in. What does quality mean? How will it enrich your life? How will it make a difference? Let the quality affect you, color your being, merge with you and become a part of your being.
- Expression
Decide to move out into the world to live the quality and express it from the core of your being. Have the attitude that the quality will shape your thoughts, your feelings and your actions going forward. Return to the outside, open your eyes, feel your body and end the exercise.
How to move forward
